Why should you watch Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc?

Based on the manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto, Chainsaw Man follows Denji, who works to pay off his late father’s debt by hunting devils. When he is betrayed and murdered by a Yakuza boss, he is saved by his partner – Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil – who merges with him, allowing him to transform into the devil-human hybrid known as Chainsaw Man. The anime ran for one season in 2022 to great critical acclaim, with praise for its exciting, brutal action scenes and its often juvenile sense of humour. It was also a big hit with audiences, and Chainsaw Man’s visually arresting face quickly became a regular sight at cosplay contests the world over.

The movie was released in 2025 and picks the story up straight after the events of the anime series. When he’s caught in the rain during a patrol after the climactic battle, Denji shelters in a phone booth and meets the mysterious Reze. The two quickly become attracted to each other, leaving Denji conflicted over his feelings for his boss Makima. But is there more to Reze than meets the eye?

Like the anime series, the movie was a huge success, finally knocking the record-breaking Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle off the #1 spot after nine weeks at the top of Japan’s box office charts. It went on to make over $191 million worldwide, making it the thirteenth highest-grossing Japanese film of all time.

If you’re a fan of the anime, you won’t want to miss this chance to see the story continue on the big screen once again. But even if you’re new to the series, Reze Arc promises stunning animation, intense, bloody action and a bittersweet love story for the ages.
